Every generation leaves a legacy. What will ours be?

Get involved

There is a Generation X-sized hole in the American cultural fabric that only we can fill.

The mission of The Legacy Years Project is to connect Gen X as a force for good.

Vision and Motivating Beliefs

1. Our legacy will not be individual. It will be collective.

2. Our legacy will not be neutral. It will be positive or negative.

3. Our legacy will largely be built over the next two decades.

The next couple of decades will define our generation’s collective legacy. As we reach the highpoint of our influence in the workplace and society, it is time for a conversation about our vision for the next stage of life and the future we still have time to build. The Legacy Years Project is designed to catalyze that conversation and move it to action.

The Legacy Years: A Definition. The years between mid-career and retirement are the time when an age cohort has the most leadership authority, economic power, and experience to offer in service of a better future that may outlive their time on the planet.

Over a thousand Gen Xers have weighed in on the generational issues that they hope to work on with others. High on the list are:

Issues that Affect The Future of Society: like the environment and the health of democracy

Issues that Affect Our Children’s Future: like school and online safety, college affordability, and mental health

Issues that Affect Our Future: like growing inequality, protecting social security and medicare, and discrimination as we age
